A firm commitment against social exclusion and a vision for the hotel industry as a generator of opportunities. Both premises sponsored the incorporation of NH Hoteles to Youth Career Initiative (YCI), an ambitious international program that involves large organizations, foundations and hotel chains. Their goal: to train for employment in the hospitality industry to young people at risk of social exclusion. NH Hoteles becomes in the first and only English company committed to this platform, each year, is young at 53 to 420 hotels worldwide.
On Monday, the 10 students who have received practical and theoretical training at the NH Hotel NH Mexico City (Mexico DF), the first hotel chain to join this initiative, have graduated, forming the first generation YCI-NH Hoteles. Six of them have already been incorporated in various hotels in the chain.
NH Experience in classroom and e-learning, as well as its comprehensive training module on Corporate Responsibility and Environment to develop for all employees, has been particularly valued by YCI committee has incorporated these modules to other courses from other chains and hotels.
YCI courses comprise 40% of theoretical classroom training and 60% practical training in all departments of the selected hotels. The Director of each hotel is responsible for overseeing the development of the program, engaging in training the chiefs of each department, responsible for monitoring students as well as the reception and support by the hotel staff.
YCI program provides not only specific training in hospitality, but also emphasizes the development of skills and attitudes which may indeed lead to career opportunities.
A global project for the future:
Youth Career Initiative joins the efforts of international agencies like UNICEF and the World Tourism Organization, with the largest hotel chains (Hyatt, Marriott, Starwood, Intercontinental, NH Hotels, Four Seasons, Pan Pacific) and different NGOs and foundations to mitigate inequalities, reduce poverty and generate employment.
YCI program comes within the framework of the International Tourism Partnership (ITP)-global platform Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability for tourism management of NH Hoteles is the only member-English hotel chain in order to mobilize the resources of the hospitality industry by offering training to enable young people at risk of exclusion to develop their career and create opportunities.
This project adds to the strategic line of NH Corporate Responsibility, which works with similar programs like "All We Party" in Argentina and Youth Bank in Germany. The Company's objective is to replicate this initiative in the 25 countries where it operates, in addition to stay engaged in more than 250 social projects in which international collaboration.
